The series highlights multi-modal  projects and programs that are designed to get Marylanders moving safely, and to connect them to opportunities and to each other.  In Maryland, Complete Streets is the deliberate approach to planning and designing streets for all users, MDOT in Motion aims to make options like walking, biking, and transit more accessible.

Adaptive roadway lighting is the lowering or raising of the light level based on the needs of the context of the roadway and the users. With the introduction of new control and ballast technology that LED luminaires provide, roadway lighting can be adapted to accommodate changes on the roadway such as traffic volumes, weather conditions, existing or background lighting conditions and pedestrian usage as well as address over-lighting and light trespass. Adaptive lighting also provides maintenance benefits by extending the life of lamps and drivers and increase the efficiency of maintenance staff.

Rural roads are a key part of towns, villages, and Tribal reservations across the United States. However, rural roads may face transportation safety challenges. During this webinar, you will learn about strategies, tools, and resources to: 
  1. Implement low-cost safety improvements on rural roads, 
  2. Conduct a Road Safety Audit on rural roads,  
  3. Develop State-local partnerships to accelerate project delivery to improve road safety, and
  4. Identify available programs and resources to improve safety and transit services in rural communities.
This webinar includes presentations from Massachusetts DOT; the Buchanan County, Iowa Secondary Roads Department; the Louisiana State University Agricultural Center; and the National Rural Transit Assistance Program. Staff in State DOTs, regional agencies, and local agencies supporting rural communities will learn actionable strategies and tools as well as examples to improve road safety on rural roads.

One-third of people living in the United States do not have a driver license. The majority of involuntary nondrivers are disabled, lower income, unhoused, formerly incarcerated, undocumented immigrants, kids, young people, and the elderly. They are also largely invisible due to a mobility system designed almost exclusively for drivers. When Driving is Not an Option shines a light on the reality for nondrivers and explains how improving our transportation system with nondrivers in mind will create a better quality of life for everyone.

Take a deep dive into the Systemic Safety Project Selection Tool. The tool is a process for identifying the factors that can contribute to crashes and implementing effective countermeasures. The training will also cover the seven steps of the safety analysis process and discuss how it can be applied using both the traditional site safety analysis method and the systemic analysis method.

The State of Alaska Local Training & Assistance Program (LTAP)

provides professional development opportunities to local governments, consultants, and construction companies conducting work on behalf of the State of Alaska Department of Transportation. LTAP centers help local agencies improve their roads and bridges by supplying them with various training programs, technology updates, newsletters, and personalized technical assistance.

Working in partnership with our Municipal and Rural Planning Organizations (MPOs & RPOs) and Alaskan consultants and contractors who have active State of Alaska projects, we strive to provide up-to-date training on relevant training opportunities. The mission of the Alaska LTAP is to create a more effective and diverse workforce by giving informational opportunities to all transportation partners.

Cina Fisher

Cina Fisher is a lifelong Alaskan raised in North Pole, Alaska, and the Circle Hot Springs mining region. Cina believes accessible information empowers people to excel at their chosen professions. After serving in the US Army, Cina returned home to a career creating, coordinating, and delivering State and Federal training specific to Alaskans.

Cina's experience includes developing training programs for the US Census Bureau -Remote Alaska Division, the Alaska National Guard, the State of Alaska Department of Health and Social Services, and Alaskan small businesses. During the summer, Cina enjoys the Alaskan wilderness by fishing, hunting, or berry scavenging. Her winters are full of hockey games and seeking warm beaches!

Joshua Hyde

Joshua Hyde has a combined experience of 10 years working with local and international interests in geology, mining, and tourism, along with asset protection in wildland firefighting for BLM, fleet management, and employee skill development. Joshua puts his energy in the office into sharing knowledge and information so that everyone can be sure their efforts are not in vain.

Outside the office, Joshua enjoys time on the rivers and banks of the great state of Alaska, hunting, fishing, camping, kayaking, and snow machining into the White Mountains during the winter and ice fishing whenever possible. Joshua began as Training Specialist for LTAP and T2 in March of 2023.
